1973 BMW 2002 Project

For sale on behalf of a customer is this 1973 BMW 2002 in need of full restoration.
It was delivered new in May 1973 to its first owner in London, the car then travelled abroad and returned to the UK in 1986. The current owners father bought the car in June 2022.
As you can see in the photos, this is a restoration project, it looks to be complete but be under no illusion this will require a large amount of work to get it back on the road. The price reflects the issues I have mentioned, I have tried to cover all aspects in terms of issues, but I highly recommend viewing it yourself.
The engine turns freely but we have not attempted to start it, I suspect with some fresh fuel it will fire up quite easily. It would appear that the engine has received a fair amount of attention in the past with invoices to support this, hence my confidence that it will run.
The running gear is all in reasonable condition, it would benefit from some refurbishment to the front suspension & brakes etc. The rear suspension has been overhauled and upgraded with polyurethane bushes.
The paintwork is very good, it has obviously been re-sprayed to a good standard at some point in the past. However, the body shell has surface corrosion in patches all over the underside. There is filler present in both sills and wheel arches, and there is heavy corrosion present in both footwells. I imagine if the underside was stripped completely much more corrosion will be uncovered. Hence, we are advertising it as a full restoration.
The interior appears to be complete although mostly removed from the car, the seats need re-upholstery but well worth saving. The head lining may clean up but, in all likelihood, will need to be replaced. The carpets are old but in good condition. All door and window seals will need to be replaced, new seals are included in the sale. All window glass is included in the sale and is in good condition.
There is a history file with receipts totalling in excess of £3000 for parts purchased for the restoration, also included is a heritage certificate, an original owner’s manual and the all-important VC5 document.
The asking price is £6995.00, Ted Riley Classics are based near Aberchirder, Aberdeenshire. UK wide delivery can be arranged at the buyer’s expense. Please get in touch to arrange a viewing.
